Steel & Concrete – “Made for each other” couple

Everyone always gets fascinated, when we start observing Civil engineering marvels all over the world, since time immemorial. It may be a city skyline, massive dam, strong bridges over rivers & seas, tunnels through the mountains or below water, stylish villas in the neighbourhood and so on. All these marvels have been playing and will continue to play a pivotal role in the development of a modern world for us. Yes, we are in a world, where living comfort and travel times are repeatedly being redefined.

Steel & Concrete – “Made for each other” couple title=

Wake up any Civil engineer from their deep sleep and ask them about the two most important building materials. The answer will invariably be: Steel and Concrete. This is a unique “made for each other” couple. Together, as a reinforced column, they are an unbeatable combination. All the external structures which we see and marvel, is because of the support and strength provided by this invisible, internal couple.

But, if you look at their individual properties, one will be amazed to know that they are basically diametrically opposite in nature. While Steel is very good in tension, Concrete can take humongous compressive loads with consummate ease. Yet, they complement, so beautifully and become a strong, reinforced column together. Their success and strength lies in their differences.

It throws up a very important lesson for us, to chew and assimilate over this weekend. Whether we like it or not, we are always part of a team in all walks of life, be it personal or professional. We all very well know that any success can only be achieved by a coordinated support from all the team members.

Whether it is a Husband – wife, Mother – son, Boss – subordinate, Mother in law – Daughter in law, Project manager – team member and so on, allow the team member(s) to be unique and different, giving them the freedom to unleash their talents. Only when people from diverse talents and approaches, complement each other, will there be synergy of the highest order.

Let us not waste time and efforts in converting others like us. Start celebrating the differences. Complement each other with the team’s goal always in mind! Our Steel – Concrete “made for each other” couple is always there for us to serve as a reminder.
