Being a new joiner/new job is always a tough phase. For some of you, it may be your first or fifth job. The shift in employment is something we usually undergo throughout our careers.

In this new phase, you have new roles, responsibilities, and challenges ahead. Adapting to different work environments and getting introduced to new faces are the major challenges we face as a new joiner. We need some time in understanding the company’s culture and environment.

There are ways to prepare yourself when you join a new job. Here are 10 things that can help you to get comfortable in your new environment and helps you in creating a good impression with your co-workers.

1. Knowing about the organization:

The first necessary thing about being a new joiner is to know about the organization where you are going to spend your valuable time.  Try to research more about the organization’s establishment, aim, goal, progress, their clients, and enrichments. This can help you in understanding more about the organization, it’s working, what you are about to do in the organization, and to whom you are going to serve.  

2. Prepare all your documents

Prepare all the documents necessary for your joining. Always get ready with the documents and proofs earlier with their photocopies. This can reduce stress on the joining day and can make your joining process easier.

Start planning your to-do-list, from the outfit you wish to wear on the first day to the transport which you are going to board. Don’t get yourself stressed on the day of joining. Try to pre-plan all your works and be on time on your first day.

4. Prepare about you

You are going to meet many new people in the first week of your new job. It is necessary to introduce yourself to your new colleagues. Prepare a 30 minutes explainer describing you and your hobbies and specify why you are into this job.

By talking about you and your passion can create a base for interacting with your co-workers.

5. Understanding Policy

Each company has its own policies depending upon the industry needs. Following and adhering to the policy is what is always expected from the company. Before getting into the work, it is necessary to understand the policies and try to shape yourself to adhere to those policies. If you need clarification in any of the policies, ask and get it clarified by your colleague or HR person who is at your help.

6. Knowing your industry

Knowing the industry is a must for your progress. This can help you in understanding the need of your customer and the type of service provided by the organization. Without understanding your industry and its needs, it becomes difficult for you to progress in your job.

Environment adaptation is always necessary for a stabilized working in an organization.  It may take some time for us to understand the work culture and the environment.  Understanding the work environment is possible by observing the working of colleagues and learning from how they respond and handle the situation. The Sooner you adapt to the environment, is easier for you to settle in the job.

You know what is your role and what you are about to do. In case, if you are not well aware of it, try to understand your role and what you are about to do in this role or get is cleared by your higher authorities. The organization always works focusing on goals. As a new joiner, you are also expected to work focusing on the same goals. Take your time in understanding and analyzing your responsibilities and prepare yourself to face the expectations.

10. Feel ready-Enjoy yourself

Finally, the most important thing is to get ready and enjoy what you are going to learn.

During the first week, you may be clueless and can have a little bit of nervousness about how to adapt and work in a new environment. But be strong and move forward, simply enjoy working.

And the only way to do great work is to love what you do” Listening and learning is necessary for any job. The most important thing is to choose a job you love and to work. If you love your job, the rest seems easy. Use your new job as a stepping stone and make sure you enjoy it.
