According to the Site Spam Laws,&nbsp;spam accounts for 14.5 billion messages globally per day, in that 45% of all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/blog\/all\/productivity-ideas-and-tools\/top-10-global-smtp-email-service-providers\/\" title=\"Email Service\"><strong>emails<\/strong><\/a>, with some estimates hitting a staggering 73%. Companies are also under the burden of spam emails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some countries have laws against spam and some spammers have\nbeen fined for their actions, but still the practice continues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why Emails Go to Spam\ninstead of Inbox?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We may wonder why the emails go into spam instead of inbox???<strong> &nbsp;<\/strong>One\nof the main reasons for this is that the spam filtering has become more\nrigorous. This is because webmail providers look at your engagement levels and\nrecipient behaviour and then decide which emails should make it to the inbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s time to fight back against the deluge. Here are ten strategies for banishing spam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1.Manage Spam Filter:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most email services have built-in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/#extra-features\" title=\"CRM features\"><strong>features<\/strong><\/a> to protect against spam. Our email service may automatically deem certain incoming emails as spam based on various factors such as specific spam words in the message, or use of attachments and you can train this filter by manually marking any spam that makes it through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can also set spam filters by our self. If we find that we are getting a lot of spam with common themes like, offers about jobs where we can make $500 a day working from home, we can create a filter to send such messages directly to our spam folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Remember to Unsubscribe:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"697\" height=\"297\" src=\"https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/se1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/se1.png 697w, https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/se1-300x128.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 697px) 100vw, 697px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsubscribe the links that usually appear down at the bottom\nof an email\u2014because most of the time, the sender doesn&#8217;t really want you to\nunsubscribe. If you do take time to search for these links, they often direct\nyou to a page that asks you to confirm your decision.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once we do so,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Most sources will respect our wishes and remove ours from their mailing lists.<\/li><li>For Gmail users, this process is even easier, because if Gmail detects an unsubscribe link in the body text, it displays that link prominently at the top of the email.<\/li><li>Another option is Unroll.me, a third-party service that scours our inbox for messages from mailing lists and gives us the option to <strong>unsubscribe<\/strong> in one click. The extension works with Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo and iCloud.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.  Use an alternative email address: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of unwanted messages make their way into our\ninbox when we order a product or subscribe to a mailing list and then the\ncompany automatically signs us up to receive unwanted marketing updates or\nshares our contact information with an advertiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One workaround for this problem is as follows: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Create a secondary email address that we can use for\nsome of these web activities, such as online shopping or hotel booking<\/li><li>Using secondary email address instead of primary email\nalone won&#8217;t stop spam emails. The unwanted messages will appear in a secondary\nemail account rather than your primary one.<\/li><li>To create a filter in the web interface, click the <strong>Options\n<\/strong>button (it looks like a cog) on the top right, followed by <strong>Settings<\/strong> and\nthen <strong>Filters and blocked addresses<\/strong>. Click <strong>Create a new filter<\/strong>,\nenter your tweaked address in the <strong>To<\/strong> field, and then decide what you\nwant to do with these types of emails. You could mark them as read immediately,\narchive them, slap a shared label on them, or some combination of these\nactions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Protect email address:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ve already mentioned above on setting up a secondary\nemail address to take the brunt of the spam we receive. In addition, we should\naim to keep our primary address as secret. That means,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Hiding it from public pages, such as our personal website or our Twitter profile, where scammers can collect it.<\/li><li>If your job requires to make the contact information available publicly, try writing out your email address long handed. For an email id <a href=\"mailto:rosemith@gmail.com\">rosemith@gmail.com<\/a>, we can use something like \u201cRose Smith at Google&#8217;s email service\u201d or \u201crosemith at gmail.com\u201d. This format makes sense to a human, but an automated bot fails to recognize it as it is an email address.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5.  Don\u2019t Respond to Spam: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"697\" height=\"297\" src=\"https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/se2.png\" alt=\"Don\u2019t Respond to Spam\" class=\"wp-image-9583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/se2.png 697w, https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/se2-300x128.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 697px) 100vw, 697px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Spammers will try to get us to respond to their offers, or\nworse, fall for a phishing scheme. Hackers sometimes send malicious emails that\ndownload malware and viruses onto our computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>From there, our files can be encrypted and we will loss\ncontrol of them unless we pay a ransom. We have probably heard about the\nransomware attacks occurring around the world<\/li><li>Even responding to spam that somewhat legitimate\ncompanies or marketers send is just an invitation for them to keep sending you\nmore<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Spammers can track to see if we opened and engaged with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helloleads.io\/blog\/all\/business-benefits\/email-marketing-crm-a-key-to-succeed-in-business\/\" title=\"Email Marketing for Small Business CRM\"><strong>email<\/strong><\/a>, and if we did, they\u2019re likely to keep sending us follow-ups. If possible, don\u2019t open spam at all. Just send it straight to your spam or junk mail and delete it forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6. Mark Spam as Spam: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When an unsolicited email makes an appearance in your inbox, never get away by just deleting it. Always mark it as spam. Opt-Out:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some websites require us to register to use their services. Before we do this, we have to review the site\u2019s privacy policy to see how it uses our personal information like our e-mail address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If the site sends out commercial messages, we should be\ngiven a choice whether we want to receive e-mail from the site or from its\nthird-party partners<\/li><li>If we don\u2019t want to hear from them, be sure to check\nthe No box. These directories are goldmines for spammers<\/li><li>To prevent our address from being harvested, e-mail\nthese services and ask them to remove our name, or follow the instructions to\nkeep our contact information private<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8. Remove IP from Blacklists:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the IP address is on a blacklist, it becomes\nextremely difficult to get emails to the inboxes. Each blacklist database has\nits own criteria for flagging IP addresses and compiling its own list of online\noffenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those criteria could include a variety of &#8220;listings&#8221; such as technical, policy, and evidence-based.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Technical listings occur mostly from mail-server\nconfiguration issues, such as missing or incorrect reverse DNS records, missing\nor incorrect banner greetings, and mail servers operating within a suspicious\nrange of IP addresses<\/li><li>Policy listings are based on an operator that does not\nwish to receive email from certain countries, or ISPs, that have a history of\nnot honouring &#8220;unsubscribe&#8221; requests<\/li><li>Evidence-based listings are those where the operator has\nreceived direct (or indirect) evidence that an IP address has been involved in\nsending unsolicited emails<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>9. Make Sure Your Authentication Records are Setup Properly:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many ISPs look at authentication records to decide\nwhether to deliver our email to the inbox or filter it as a spam message. So, we\nshould make sure our email server supports these protocols (DKIM, SPF, and\nSender ID) and that they are properly implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>DKIM<\/strong> &#8212; Domain Keys Identified\nMail<\/li><li><strong>SPF<\/strong> &#8212; Sender Policy Framework<\/li><li><strong>Sender ID<\/strong> \u2013 It is a set of characters\nthat represent the identity of a sender<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>10.
